

She was born on March 9, 1930, to the late Vernon Durant and Ona Lee Tarlton Haigler.
Eleanor was a lifelong Union County native, who grew up in Marshville before eventually residing in Monroe. She was a beautician who owned and operated her own cosmetology shop for over 40 years before retiring. Eleanor had many hobbies and enjoyments in her life including working in her flower garden and reading books. She was a fantastic cook and loved her pet cats. Eleanor especially loved her family and enjoyed spending time and the precious memories she made with them. She was also a faithful and active member of Secrest Grove Baptist Church.
Along with her parents, Eleanor is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Truby Horne; daughter, Linda Byrum; brothers, Edward Haigler and Vernon Carroll Haigler; and sister, Corrine Redfern. She is survived by her two sons, Charles Horne (Trish) and Ronnie Horne (Karlei); son-in-law, Doug Byrum; grandchildren, Christy Caskey (Perry), Jennifer Lynn Horne, Brandy Nicole Horne, Amber Johnston (Bailey), Trevor Horne, and Dena Mullis (Aaron); brothers, Jimmy Haigler and Roy Haigler; as well as many great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, from 11:00 am until 12:30 pm at Secrest Grove Baptist Church, located at 4505 Weddington Rd., Monroe, North Carolina. A funeral service to celebrate Eleanor’s life will be held following the visitation at 12:45 pm with Pastor Jeff Whitecotton officiating. Burial will immediately follow the service at Lakeland Memorial Park.
