Gene Tarlton, 71, passed away Saturday morning, March 3, 2018 at Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center in Charlotte. He was born February 22, 1947 in Monroe to the late M.R. Tarlton and Vennie Price Tarlton. A service to celebrate his life will be held on Wednesday March 7, 2018 at 2:00 pm at McEwen Funeral Home of Monroe. Visitation will be held at 1:00 pm prior to the service. Burial with military honors will follow at Lakeland Memorial Park. Gene attended Monroe Schools prior to entering the U.S. Army. Following his discharge from the Army, he studied at Central Piedmont Community College and later at South Piedmont Community College. Prior to retiring from Standard Register in Monroe, he worked in sales at USCO, Inc. and Quality Line Plumbing Supply. Gene enjoyed golfing with his buddies and working in his yard. During his retirement years, he enjoyed gathering with his friends, reading and watching sports, following Dale Earnhardt, Jr. during his racing career and especially his UNC Tarheels. Gene is survived by his loving wife, of 42 years, Freida Deese Tarlton; his cherished daughter, Christy T. Wilson; son-in-law, Jason Wilson, whom he admired and loved for loving and caring for Gene’s girls, and granddaughters Sydney and Ivey Wilson, whom he adored. Though Gene’s family and friends mourn deeply for him, they know he will be waiting to hug and greet them at Heaven’s gate. From the first time Bill and I met Gene and Freida they were like family to us. We had so much fun with them. We know one day we will be seeing our dear sweet friend again. We love you Gene!
