Joy has gone on to be with the Lord after a serious illness.
Joy is survived by her daughter Val Manes Ingram(Rick) of Greensboro, NC; Ted Manes(Gianna) of Fort Mill, SC; Tim Manes of Indian Land, SC ; Dan Manes(Lisa) of Fort Mill, SC; grandsons, Clinton Ingram(Anna) of Charlotte, NC; Will Manes of Charleston, SC; Cooper Manes of Fort Mill, SC; Connor Manes of Fort Mill, SC; step-brother Dick Beerman of Fort Wayne, IN; granddaughters, Ashley Manes of Fort Mill, SC; Hannah Laney of Fort Mill, SC; Erin Manes of Fort Mill, SC. Joy was preceded in death by her daughter Laurie Manes Laney(Hoss) of Fort Mill, SC and daughter-in-law Sally Swanberg Manes(Tim) of Fort Mill, SC; ex-husband Tony Manes of Lake Wylie, SC; half brother Hal Smith of Indianapolis, IN.
Joy was born in Claypool, Indiana. Her mother Esther was from South Whitley, IN. Esther passed away when Joy was nine years old. She then lived with her loving aunts and cousins for a time in South Whitley until moving to Fort Wayne, IN with her father Harold Smith and step-mother Lorraine. Mom was a graduate of Elmhurst High School in Fort Wayne. She worked for a time in Fort Wayne and then married Tony Manes in 1955, also from Fort Wayne. The couple went on to have five children and seven grandchildren. They lived in Kokomo, IN for many years where the children still call their hometown. Later on the family settled in Fort Mill, SC where much of the family still resides. Joy made close friends in Tega Cay, SC that remained strong and meant so much to her through the years.
Joy spent five happy years living on her own in Myrtle Beach, SC. She loved to walk on the beach and she had a job she enjoyed as a hostess in a hotel restaurant. When the first grandchild arrived she headed back to the Fort Mill area to be a hands on grandmother. The grandchildren called her by her chosen name of Granny.
The last two to three years have not been easy on Joy due to declining health. Her children loved and cared for her to the end as best they could. With the recent covid outbreak it was difficult on them as it has been on many other families across the country . They had to put their trust in the professionals that were caring for her since they could not be by her side. She is no longer suffering alone, she is in Heaven now with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and family members who have passed on before her. The family derives comfort with this fact and must continue on. That is what she would want.
We know many will miss Mom/Granny/Joy. She was a wonderful person. Thank you Lord for giving her peace now. YOU answered our prayers and we are forever grateful.
Due to the covid situation there are no services planned. The family will celebrate their mother's life at a later time and let everyone know the time and place. Thank you from us, the family, for your prayers and support. It means so much.
