She was born in South Korea on July 20, 1945 to Myong Sok Park and Kum Ok Yang. After living overseas in Asia and Europe, Judy and her late husband Bruce settled in Monroe in the mid-1970s with their children Betty and Duke.
Her ambition and drive transcended her small stature, her determination, strong work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit, lead to her many successful businesses from dry cleaners and restaurants to retail stores. Very well known in her community, everywhere she went someone would want to stop to talk or say hi to Miss Judy and everyone wanted a hug. She had a strong faith and deep devotion to her church Bethany Korean Presbyterian where she served as a Deacon and Trustee. Never a day would pass that she didn't spend time with her beloved Bible. She could be found reading scripture, doing Bible studies, listening to a sermon or praising along worship music. She loved gardening and working in her yard and was known for her green thumb. It was always said her plants and flowers loved her so they grew so beautifully.
She had a deep affinity for cooking and was an excellent cook and host. She was never happier than preparing your favorite dish, seeing you enjoy your food and knowing you were well-fed. Always welcoming and willing to help someone, she touched the lives of so many. She cared for people and was always warm to those she met. She was funny and always loved to laugh. She was supportive, encouraging and always had a kind word. This was most evident in her love of her church family, her friends, her family and especially her children and her precious grandchildren; her pride and joy.
Her warm and generous spirit will live on in everyone who knew her. Her smile and hugs will forever be sorely missed. May she rest easy in the arms of Jesus.
In addition to her husband, Bruce Howell, Judy is preceded in death by her parents and several siblings. She is survived by her daughter Betty Howell and son Duke Howell of Charlotte, grandchildren Olivia Howell, Anna Howell, Will Howell and Sam Howell as well as one sister, nephews and relatives of South Korea.
A celebration of life service will be held Saturday December 3, 2022, at 1:30pm with visitation at 12:30 at McEwen Funeral Home of Monroe 204 South Main Street and burial immediately following at Forest Lawn East Cemetery 3700 Forest Lawn Drive Weddington.
