Mr. McAteer, son of Heyward Beaty McAteer and Jeanette Revels McAteer was born on July 13th, 1949 in Lancaster, SC. He was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church, Monroe NC. Boyd worked at IMO in Monroe for 38 years. He enjoyed his work and the people he worked alongside. He made lifelong friends with some and was well respected by others. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and mentor to so many. He taught us to be strong, to love and care with all our heart, to laugh, have fun and enjoy life. He was a great leader, strong and brave but full of love and compassion. He made us laugh, he showed tough love and he taught us to never give up. We were all so blessed to have him in our lives. He was loved so much and even though we are sad her on earth, we know he is rejoicing in Heaven. Boyd and I were very close friends growing up in Great Falls SC. Usually when you saw one you saw us both. As life changes our circumstances so does our friends change. This happened to Boyd and myself. I’ve always considered him a good friend even though we rarely saw each other. His sisters kept me posted from time to time about his life endeavors.
I will always consider Boyd and his sisters not only as friends but family.
May Gods Blessing take away the pain as only God can.
For now I say, Rest In Peace my friend and brother, until we meet again in the presence of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. JC

I am sorry to hear about Boyd's passing. I have not been in touch with him since I retired from IMO in 2007 and our relationship was limited. May God's blessings be with his family during this time and in the future.

Boyd and I worked together at IMO for 30 years and he became a good friend both at work and outside of work. We didn't stay in touch after I retired and moved to Arizona but that doesn't mean you stop thinking of old friends or talking about them when the opportunity presents itself.
In the mornings when I'd go to see what he was up to I'd greet him with a "McAteer" and he'd come back with a "Mr. Rust". He had a unique way of saying that I can still hear.
Boyd could tell a story especially if he put that Great Falls, SC twist on it. Yea, most were embellished but that just made them better.
The end of the month at work usually got pretty busy and when I needed that extra help Boyd never let me down.
A good friend that never let me down, R.I.P. "McAteer".
Our thoughts & prayers are with Diane & Family.

Diane and family,
My thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. Take comfort in knowing that Boyd is with our Lord and is in a better place.
The government inspectors he worked with (Amanda Ford, Jeff Evans, Ron Williams) all asked me to pass on their condolences as well.
I will always be grateful for the guidance Boyd gave me in the time we worked together. I have thought of him often - he made things look so easy and I still haven't been able to figure out how he did it. When he retired, I told everyone that I didn't think I would be able to master his ability to "stir up the pot". The thought of his Master Pot Stirrer award still brings a smile to my face.
Boyd treated everyone with respect and was well liked here at IMO. He touched so many lives and left an impact on all of us. We have been talking and sharing memories of him.
If there is anything that I can help you with, please let me know.
