Hilbert D. Skaggs, 88, of Salisbury, North Carolina, passed away on May 13, 2026. Born in Canvas, West Virginia, Hilbert was a proud Vietnam veteran who faithfully served his country in both the United States Army and Navy.
Hilbert graduated high school and later worked as a diesel hydraulic mechanic, as well as a truck driver. He was known as a hardworking man who took pride in his work and dedication to his family. Above all else, he was a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who cherished the time spent with those he loved.
He is survived by his children, Robert L. Skaggs, Dennis Spangler, Karen McGirt, and Dianne Parker; along with multiple grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Hilbert was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Joan E. Skaggs; his sister, Karen Sutherland; and his brothers, Bill Skaggs, Gary Skaggs, Jerry Skaggs, and Ken Skaggs.
A graveside service will be held at Center Grove Memorial Park, 7034 Henry Harris Road, Lancaster, South Carolina.
Hilbert will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
