He was born on July 20, 1944, to the late Lawrence and Lena Belk Helms.
A Union County native, Joe was an avid hunter and fisherman. To say that Joe loved to hunt and fish was an understatement as he would spend any extra time he could being outdoors. Besides his enjoyment for hunting and fishing, Joe also had a great love for his family and truly enjoyed spending time and making precious memories with them. He was also a faithful and active member at Open Book church.
Along with his parents, Joe is preceded in death by his son, Timothy Mark Helms; 1 brother; and 6 sisters. He is survived by his loving wife, Janie Helms; son, Daryl Helms; daughter, Lisa Helms; 8 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; brothers, Donald Helms and Bobby Helms; sisters, Patsy Bullock, Debra Elkins, and Toni Flenor; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, at 11:00 am at Lakeland Memorial Park, located at 1901 Lancaster Avenue, Monroe, North Carolina.
