Mr. John Robert "Johnny" Sweatt

Mr. John Robert “Johnny” Sweatt, age 77, of Monroe, passed away Friday (February 21, 2014) in the McWhorter House of Union County Hospice in Monroe.

Mr. Sweatt was born December 06, 1936 in Union County, N.C., a son of the late Mr. John Robert Sweatt and the late Mrs. Daisy Mae Rollins Sweatt.

He was preceded in death by a baby daughter, Angela Jane Sweatt and a brother, Mr. Wade Aldridge.

He was member of the Lanes Creek Volunteer Fire Department, having served as a fire fighter for over 44 years.

Mr. Sweatt is survived by his wife of 51 years, Mrs. Edith Rape Sweatt of the home, a daughter, Melissa Bullard and husband, Mike of Monroe, a son, Robert Sweatt and wife Rhonda of Marshville, (five) grandchildren, Jonathan Sweatt and fiancee’ Alison, Miranda Collins and husband Daniel, Kevin Sweatt, Eric Bullard and Steven Sweatt, (four) great-grandchildren, (one) sister, Mrs. Arvie Courtney and husband G.B. of Monroe, and (one) sister-in-law, Kathy Aldridge of Monroe.

The family will receive friends and relatives for visitation Monday night (February 24, 2014) from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at McEwen Funeral Home in Monroe.

Funeral services to celebrate the life of Mr. Johnny Sweatt will be held at 11:00 A.M. (Tuesday, February 25, 2014) in the McEwen Colonial Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Paul Ballard and the Rev. Robin Griffeth, with burial to follow in Lakeland Memorial Park.

The family has suggested that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Johnny’s memory to the Lanes Creek Volunteer Fire Department, 7608 Landsford Road, Monroe, N.C. 28112.
