

John Vann Williams, 96, of Monroe went home to be with the Lord on March 12, 2023. John was born in Union County on July 26, 1926 to the late Vann and Gertrude Williams. God blessed John with a long life and he was able to work at the things he loved up until the last two years of his life. His working career spanned fifty years – twenty as a bookkeeper and thirty as a Human Resources Director at Holly Farms Poultry. When not working, John enjoyed fishing at the beach and tending to his vegetable garden. John was a longtime member of the Indian Trail Lions Club. He served the Lord at both Hartis Grove Baptist Church and Ebenezer Baptist Church as a Minister of Music for 65 years, Sunday School teacher, deacon and volunteered with the Union Baptist Association.
In addition to his parents, John is predeceased by his loving wife of 59 years, Vivian Williams; special friend, Lucille Broome, sister, Frances Helms and brother-in-law E.L. Helms.
He is survived by his son, Barry Williams; daughter-in-law, Amy Williams; grandson, Cody Williams as well as many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Friday, March 24 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Ebenezer Baptist Church, 1417 Unionville Indian Trail Road West, Indian Trail. The funeral service will be at the church on Saturday, March 25 at 10:30 am followed by burial at Lakeland Memorial Park.
One message John left for his family and friends was “Don’t weep for me because I am not dead. I am alive in the presence of the Lord Jesus. Praise God for His Amazing Grace!”
