Marie McMahon Russell

Marie was born to Muriel (Northrup) McMahon and Major George F. McMahon Jr. USMC at Bethesda Naval Hospital, Bethesda, MD on Nov. 10, 1954. Marie pursued a near lifelong call to the nursing profession. A proud graduate of Mercy School of Nursing, she practiced her craft for over 40 years, bringing comfort to countless people.

She is survived by her husband, Larry Cowie; children, Bryan (Madison) Russell, Rebecca (Jameson) Knight, Adam (Brooke) Russell and Mark (Leea) Russell; nine grandchildren that were her greatest joy; two brothers, CDR. George F. McMahon III US Navy (Ret.) and Michael McMahon; and several nieces and nephews. Marie was preceded in death by her brother Lance Corporal Timothy McMahon USMC and her stepfather Major Herbert Persky USMC.

Always Faithful, Marie was a fierce advocate for her family.

A visitation will take place on Monday, June 15 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at McEwen Funeral Home of Monroe, located at 204 South Main Street, Monroe, North Carolina. A funeral service will take place at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, at the Legacy Chapel at Hopewell Baptist Church located at 420 Hopewell Church Rd., Monroe, North Carolina.
