Mary Sue Mills, 82, of Monroe went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, July 23, 2020. She was the widow of Bobby Gene Mills Sr. They had been married for 49 years before his passing. Mary Sue was born in Monroe on July 4, 1938. She was a lifelong member of New Hope United Methodist Church in Monroe. She attended Prospect School (class of '56). In 1960, she graduated from Lander College with a degree in elementary education. After several years of teaching, she and her husband began their family business, Bobby Mills Heating and Air. Together, with their children, they worked to establish the company and have continued in its success for nearly 50 years.
Mary is survived by her daughter, Debra Cable, (Darryl Cable) and son, Bobby Mills Jr. (Amy Jo Mills); grandchildren, Jordan Cable, English Mills, Jacob Cable, Ashley Mills Hill (Matthew Hill) and Bo Mills. Mary had one great-grandchild, Elijah Cable, who brought such love and laughter to her. She is also survived by her best friend and sister, Nadine Benton, along with many nieces and nephews. Along with her husband, Bobby, she was preceded in death by her infant son, John Paul Mills; her parents, Paul and Thetus Belk; and her brother Paul Belk Jr.
The family will receive friends at McEwen Funeral Home of Monroe from 9:30 until 10:30 am on Monday, July 27 with a funeral service immediately following at 10:30. The committal service will be at New Hope United Methodist Church Cemetery, 3221 Plyler Mill Road, Monroe
