A lifelong resident of Monroe, Montie was a beloved wife, mother, sister, and aunt, who was loved, respected and admired by many as a kind and caring friend who spent her life spreading joy and love to those that knew her.
Born October 28, 1935 in Wingate, NC, Montie was the youngest child of Edmond and Verdie Moore Griffin.
She is survived by her son, Gregory Tomberlin (Susan) of Indian Trail; several nieces and nephews; and her special furry friend, Bella. She was so close with many in the community; they were like family to her.
Montie was preceded in death by her loving husband of 65 years, Lewis Tomberlin; daughter, Sharon Tomberlin Greene; son-in-law, Berry Dale Greene; sisters, Lucille Floyd and Gladys Carelock; and her brother, Edsel Griffin.
Montie loved her family immensely, as well as her extended family and friends at Lee Park Church, Pastor Chris and his family, and her Sunday school class. She and her husband were founding members of Lee Park Church. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, baking cakes and pies, assembling puzzles, and visiting the beaches along the East Coast, listening to gospel music and dedicating her time to various community activities.
Montie's family extends their love and gratitude to the entire staff at Brookdale Monroe Square for their compassionate care and comfort they provided Montie throughout the past year.
Funeral service details will be announced soon.
