

Myrtle was born on February 10, 1933 to the late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Butler Elliott. As a lifelong resident of Union County, she enjoyed her career of over thirty years as a cafeteria manager of Indian Trail and Hemby Bridge Elementary. Myrtle and her late husband, James Junior Benton were active members of The Hornet’s Nest Antique Car Club of Charlotte for many years.
Myrtle was preceded in death by her parents; Thomas and Willie Elliott; husband, James Benton; brothers, JT Elliott and Fred Elliott; and son, Gary J Benton. She is survived by her son, Robert Scott Benton (Kimberlee); granddaughter, Angela Gulledge (Nic); grandson, Elliott Cooper Benton (Sarah); great grandchildren, Nichole Roxie Gulledge, Amelie Faye Benton, and Jericho Michael Benton; and sister-in-law, Lois Benton.
Visitation will be held on Friday, July 14, 2023 from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm at McEwen Funeral Home of Monroe, located at 204 South Main Street, Monroe, North Carolina. A service to celebrate her life will follow at 2:00 pm in the McEwen Colonial Chapel with committal immediately following at Lakeland Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to a charity of your choice in honor of Myrtle.
