Dr. Terry Wayne Preslar, 73, of Mineral Springs, passed away October 22, 2020 with his wife of over 50 years, Donna, by his side. He was born in Albemarle, NC on February 11, 1947, the son on Walter and Louise Preslar.
Upon graduation from Bethel School, Midland (class of 1965) he entered the U.S. Army. His military service (1966 – 1968), included a tour in Vietnam, where he served with the 1st Air Cavalry as a crew chief and door gunner.
It was during this time that he met and married his lifelong companion, Donna. In December, 1969, he was led to Christ by Vernon Helms, his Pastor and mentor for many years. Shortly after his conversion, he answered the call to preach the gospel. This ultimate surrender to the Will of God led him to many more opportunities for service throughout his life. He became the pastor of Howie Baptist Church in Waxhaw, NC where he served for 2 years. During this time, he was ordained as a preacher. The organization of First Baptist Church of Mineral Springs was in the year 1975, and is where he and Donna have served the church and its mission faithfully for 45 years. During these years of service, their lives have touched untold numbers of people. The mission of the church has always been a shining light – a city set on a hill.
Terry and Donna have been blessed with five children; Gina Shafer of Monroe, John Preslar (Lisa) of Naples, FL., Amy Jo Mills (Bobby) of Monroe, NC, Jason Preslar (Sachiko Ishioka) of Los Angeles, CA and Joy Bolton (Michael) of Marshville, NC. Their grandchildren have always been a great source of joy to them. They are Nathan Jenkins (Anna), Adam Jenkins (Colette), Jonathan Shafer, English Mills, Benjamin Shafer, Ashely Hill (Matthew), Bo Mills, Matthew Preslar, Aaron Preslar, Ella Bolton and Parker Bolton.
Dr. Preslar is best known for his compassion for others. His faithful service in the work of the Lord will be his greatest legacy for all who knew and loved him.
The family will receive friends on Monday, October 26 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at McEwen Funeral Home of Monroe. The Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, October 27 at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Mineral Springs. The graveside committal will immediately follow at Sharon Memorial Park.
