
Mrs. Hatley was born July 13, 1927 in Union County NC to James Brice Haigler and Glennie Mae Hyatt Haigler. She is survived by her loving sister, Deane Haigler Billingsley and husband Gus Billingsley.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 63 years, Everett Edward Hatley of Stanly County. Daughters are Laura Hatley Martin of Monroe and Barbara Lucas (Dr. Jack Lucas) of Charlotte. She loved spending time with her granddaughters Tiffany Overcash (Chad), Jessica Clark (Elliott), Melissa Martin, Dr. Natalie Lucas Davies (Dr. Stephen Davies), Emily Lucas, and her one grandson, Dr. Matthew Lucas. Her two great-grandsons are Ayden Rhys Clark and Cassius Everett Davies.
Mrs. Hatley was a graduate of Unionville High School. She received her B.A. degree in music at Meredith College and earned a master’s degree from Appalachian State University. She taught music in Stanly and Union County schools for many years and served as church organist/pianist since age 12. With her late husband she founded and operated Hatley’s Skating Rink for over 50 years. Her passions were gardening, music, and her family.
Visitation will be held at McEwen Funeral Home of Monroe, Wednesday July 2, 6-8pm. Funeral service will take place at her home church, Benton’s Crossroads Baptist in Monroe on Thursday, July 3, at 2pm. The Reverends Dr. Chris Baucom and Richard Johnson along with family friend, Teddy Orr, will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials may be made in Mrs. Hatley’s honor to Benton’s Crossroads Baptist Church Music Department at 109 Lawyers Road East, Monroe, NC 28110.
