Tommy Neal Secrest of Monroe passed away peacefully at his home on December 10, 2018. Tommy Neal was born September 9, 1932 in Union County to the late Billy N. Secrest and Hazel Price Secrest. Tommy Neal is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Ruth Kindley Secrest, brothers, Ivan Secrest (Rachel), Lanny Secrest (Jamie), sister, Lou Ellen Younts (Richard) in addition to several nieces and nephews. He is also predeceased by his stepfather, Wendell Connell.
After serving his country in the US Army, he worked for Douglas Aircraft for several years and later on for his brother at Secrest Wrecker and Crane Service in Monroe. He also worked for Charlotte Plastics in Monroe as a Mechanical Maintenance Manager until his retirement.
Tommy Neal was a devout Christian man and a lifelong member of Shiloh Baptist Church. He loved the Lord and tried to live his life according to God’s Word. He especially loved being outside and enjoying God’s creations. He served as a Deacon for many years at Shiloh Baptist Church, was a member of the men’s Sunday School class and served on many committees and projects at the church.
A visitation will be held at Shiloh Baptist Church on Saturday, December 15, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. followed by a 2:00 p.m. funeral service with Rev. Ron Hanna officiating and Dr. Brian Killough, nephew, delivering the family eulogy.
Burial will be at Lakeland Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Shiloh Baptist Church Building Fund, 2301 Rocky River Road North, Monroe, NC 28110.
