Alida was born in Monaca, PA on September 18, 1920 and died peacefully in Pike Road, AL on November 25, 2022 at the age of 102.
She was preceded in death by her father and mother (Frank and Alida Richter), her sisters and brother (Helen, Mary, Anna Mae, Martha, June, Ruth,Frank), her husband of 61 years (Horace) and her daughter (Patty). She is survived by her son Richard, his wife Patty and their son John.
Alida grew up in the western Pennsylvania and panhandle of West Virginia until joining the Navy in December 1944. Her duty station for the duration of World War II was in New York City where she worked as a Storekeeper Dispersing (SKD). After the war she moved back to West Virginia while remaining in the Naval Reserves. She was introduced to her future husband during her active duty period in Norfolk, VA in 1948 as a blind date. Love was in the air, everything came together and they were married on January 20, 1950. Married life saw Alida establishing homes in Norfolk, VA, Puerto Rico, the Territory of Hawaii and Washington, DC before settling in Texas after Horace retired from the Navy in 1965. There they remained until moving to Alabama in 2007.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the caregivers of Home Care of Montgomery (Ebony, Ericka and Ebony in particular) and the nurses and volunteers of Enhabit Home Health and Hospice.
Horace and Alida will be interned at Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo, AL on 20 December at 2:45pm.
