Retired school teacher, Arlene Dockrey Tyson, 81, passed away Wednesday, July 28, 2021 with her husband and son nearby. She was not only cherished by her family and friends, but was also admired by her students in Saint Cloud, Florida and Banks, Alabama where she taught for over 40 years.
Born in Nashville, Tennessee on September 16, 1939, Arlene was the oldest of two daughters of Arbie Rex and Willie Mae (West) Dockrey. She and her sister, Sandra, shared a love of learning, and Arlene always wanted to be a teacher. She earned her Bachelor of Education from East Tennessee State University and her Master of Education while living in Florida. While in college, Arlene met her dear husband, Bill, and the two were married on June 15, 1962. They were a devoted couple who enjoyed their time together. While living in Banks, Alabama, they were owners of a successful poultry business. At the time of her passing, Bill and Arlene had recently celebrated 59 years of marriage.
Arlene enjoyed time spent with her family and was particularly skilled at spoiling her 2 grandsons, Bryce and Geordan. Cooking for holidays always included her sweet potato and hash brown casseroles and her world famous plum cake with lemon icing, all family favorites.
Arlene accepted Christ as her personal Lord and Savior. She attended First Christian Church in Saint Cloud, Florida, Enon Baptist Church in Banks, Alabama, and Calvary Baptist Church in Montgomery, Alabama. She lived out her faith daily and was a sweet example of a Christian woman to all the knew her.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Bill, son, Billy (Tonya), grandsons, Bryce and Geordan, sister, Sandra Robertson (Charles), nephews Stewart and Jessie (Kelli) Robertson, sister-in-law Elanor Mcgowan, extended family members, and their loving dog Ladybug.
