

SCHMIDT, Arthur H. (Bud), CMSGT, USAF, Ret. of Montgomery, AL, passed away on Wednesday Sept 5, 2012. Bud was born to George and Hilda Schmidt in Fairmont, MN. He graduated from Fairmont High School and received his B.A. from the University College of Maryland. He married the former Leola (Teen) Lueth of Fairmont, MN. He served his country with valor and patriotism for 26 years in the United States Air Force as a Health Systems Analyst, including tours of duty stateside and abroad in French Morocco, Germany, and Thailand. He was the recipient of the Bronze Star for Meritorious Service, two Meritorious Service Medals, and the Air Force Commendations Medal. After retiring from the Air Force, he continued his career as a Health Systems Analyst in the Civil Service finally retiring after serving his country for a total of over 45 years.
Upon retirement he was active in his church and was also a volunteer for many worthwhile causes in the greater Montgomery area, including Faith Rescue Mission, Family Promise and the Autauga Interfaith Center based in Prattville. He was nominated for the River Region Volunteer of the year in 2012. He was an avid ballroom dancer for 25 years and a founding member of the Stardust Ballroom Dance Club. Bud was also an enthusiastic Auburn football fan. His greatest joy however, was his five grandchildren and his one great-grandchild.
Left to cherish the memory of Bud are his wife of 58 years, Teen, one daughter Paige Hall and her husband Ron of Camden, Maine, one son Kevin and his wife Teresa of Milford, Michigan and five grandchildren, Kim Schmidt, Amanda VanderHulst, Taylor Hall, Samantha Schmidt, and Andrew Schmidt, one great-grandchild Cameron VanderHulst and one sister Kathleen Holzhauer.
Visitation will be held on Monday, Sept 10, 2012, from 5 – 7 pm, at Alabama Heritage Funeral Home. A Memorial and Celebration Service will be held on Tuesday, Sept 11, 2012, at 11 am, Alabama Heritage Funeral Home. Private grave side services will be held at the Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo, AL. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Messiah Church 2072 Hwy 14 East Prattville, AL 36006. Condolences may be offered at www.alabamaheritagefh.com.
