Bernice Pfeiffer McGuire, 92, of Wetumpka, AL, passed away on October 29, 2023. She was born on March 2, 1931, in Brenham, TX, to the late Walter Pfeiffer and Ada Behrens. Bernice was a loving, caring, and compassionate individual who had a passion for gardening. She was known for her green thumb and spent countless hours tending to her yard.
Bernice is survived by her son Mark McGuire and his wife Stephanie, as well as her three grandchildren, Tiffany Simpson (Marshall), Kristopher McGuire, and Kaitlan Moncrief (Steven). She also leaves behind seven great-grandchildren: Logan Jennette, Zoe Simpson, Grayson Simpson, Emma McGuire, Faith McGuire, Ellie Moncrief, and Dawson Moncrief. She is also survived by her stepbrother, Joe (Kay) Behrens of Cedar Hill, Tx. Bernice cherished her special friends, John and Susan Chain, and her friend of 50 years, Gurtha Pemberton.
Pallbearers will be Kevin Chain, Kristopher McGuire, Steven Moncrief, Marshall Simpson, Logan Jennette, and Dalton Reynolds.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 62 years, Colonel Thomas McGuire, as well as her stepfather Alvin Behrens.
Bernice attended Brenham Elementary and Brenham High School before furthering her education at the University of Texas. She was a devoted housewife, dedicating her time and energy to creating a warm and loving home for her family.
Bernice was also a military spouse, supporting her husband during his over 30 years of service. She understood the sacrifices and challenges that come with military life.
She was a member of Robinson Springs Church in Millbrook, AL, where she found solace and community.
Aside from her love for gardening, Bernice enjoyed entertaining people in her home. She loved hosting gatherings and bringing joy to those around her.
A service to honor and celebrate Bernice's life will be held on Friday, November 3, 2023, at 2pm at Alabama Heritage Chapel. Prior to the service, there will be a visitation from 1-2pm. Interment will follow at Alabama Heritage Cemetery.
The funeral arrangements are entrusted to Alabama Heritage Funeral Home in Montgomery, AL.
Bernice Pfeiffer McGuire will be remembered for her kind and nurturing spirit, her green thumb, and her unwavering love for her family and friends. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
