Bertha Humphrey McHone, age 67, passed away peacefully from this temporary life into the glorious presence of her Lord on February 14, 2021. She was born November 24, 1953 in Montgomery, AL to Eley and Ruth Humphrey. She was married to her longtime friend, Bill McHone Jr., of Montgomery, AL.

Bertha always loved on her family, friends, and all that she encountered. In her later years she took on the world with travel and fun times with those she loved. She often traveled with her children, and they all looked forward to the delicious meals that she would cook, especially during Thanksgiving and other holidays. Bertha had a very strong love for all her grandkids and enjoyed the vacations and sporting events with them and other loved ones. The family can remember the fun trips to the beach, to Washington D.C. and other places that they enjoyed together. She also enjoyed the close times spent with her loving cousins Deloris "Doll" Lane and Ruthie Lee Davis. Bertha’s caring heart was shown through her home health business for the elderly and anyone in need. She always cared strongly for the comfort of others.

Bertha was a member of the Church of the Highlands. She loved to hear her favorite gospel song, Amazing Grace How Sweet the Sound. The words would uplift her and she always spread that joy to others. Bertha now has her place in the heavenly choir praising God.

Bertha is survived by her husband Bill McHone Jr of Montgomery, AL; her brother, Moses (Barbara) Lane of Montgomery, AL; her sisters Elaine Young of Atlanta, GA, Plassie Stalling of Montgomery, AL; her two sons, Cha’leb McHone of Montgomery, AL, Ja’mes (Kimberly) Humphrey of Montgomery; her three daughters, Lasonya Humphrey of Montgomery, AL, Chiquita Brooks of Montgomery, AL, Sonquita (Dr. Taj) King of Jacksonville, FL; her two stepchildren, Bill McHone III of Montgomery, AL, Barbara McHone of Montgomery, AL; devoted cousin, Frank Briggs of Montgomery, AL; her grandchildren, nieces and nephews; her close friend known as Lady. Da Bert,

I love and miss you so much, grandma! You were so full of life and so full of love! I miss those days as kids coming to your house on Jordan St. It was so many of us every weekend piled at your house you would send us to the park because we would all get on your nerves lol.

I never imagined you being gone so soon! I can’t even sit here and “pretend” to be good because honestly, I’m not. Grandma, I’m so so so sorry for all those times I stopped through Montgomery and passed your exit (like you would always say). I am glad though, that I got to spend that weekend with you and my kids got to feel your hugs and sweet kisses before you left us!

My last memory and I’ll never forget it, is before I left you told me to just hold you and you kissed me on my cheek as I held you in my arms, while you continuously whispered in my ear that you loved me! I’ll forever cherish that moment, grandma!

Yes grandma, I do have a GREAT husband! I’ll forever have his back and will continue to keep my family together because that’s what you constantly told me to do. Thank you for always reminding him of how great he is whenever he would come down with me. I know he’s tired of catching me in the bathroom crying lol but he understands lol.

Until we meet again...

Your Second Oldest Grandchild💜

May memories of your beloved mother bring comfort during this hard time in your lives. Bertha Lee was a beautiful soul, compassionate and selfless. She became a caretaker to a cousin whose life had spiraled out of control, under her care Frankie changed, he looked healthy, always clean and well dressed; no sign of his former self all because of her.

Prayers to Bill. When we lose a love one here on earth, we gain an angel in heaven.
