Charles Edwin Draper

Charles Edwin Draper, Jr. age 90, left this earth for his heavenly reward early Wednesday morning, January 17, 2018. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Edwin Draper; his mother, Vida Burgess Yohe and his son, Andy Charles Draper. Still here to cherish many precious memories are his loving wife of 67 years, Vera; his sister, Miriam Olree and her husband, Charles of Memphis, TN; daughter, LaVera Brown and her husband Terry; grandchildren Kimberly Bradley, Benjamin Brown, David Brown and his wife, Brooke, all from Montgomery; granddaughter Amanda Hernandez and her husband, Mark and grandson, Andy Charles Draper, Jr. and his wife, Jessica, all from Indiana. He also leaves behind eight cherished great grandchildren, Kelsey, Joey, Tyler, Mark, Jr., Isaiah, Alicia, Jase and Link; along with a very special in-law, Betty Brown and numerous nieces and nephews.

Charles was born in Durant, Oklahoma and attended Harding University in Searcy, Arkansas. He was a life-long educator, beginning his teaching career at Mars Hill Bible School in Florence, Alabama where he taught math, Bible and speech, sponsored the debate club and began the Mars Hill basketball program just to name a few of the things he accomplished while there. He finished his teaching career at Aviation High School in Redondo Beach California. He loved everything math. He was also a gifted preacher and Bible school teacher.

Before his physical body prohibited it, he was an active member of the Vaughn Park Church of Christ serving as an elder for many years and regularly teaching Bible classes.

A celebration of his life will be held on Sunday, January 21st at 3:00 p.m. at the Vaughn Park Church of Christ with his pastor and friend, Brad Sullivan, officiating. A visitation with the family will take place after the service.
