Denita Reshelle Colvin, affectionately called “Nina,” made her entrance into this world on September 23, 1962 in Columbus, GA. Her parents, James Brown and the late Mrs. Helen Louise Carson moved from Columbus to Louisville, KY to raise Nina and her brothers James (Jimmy) and Sean. She attended Thomas Jefferson High School. Upon graduation, she enlisted in the United States Army. There she met the love of her life, the late Timothy Lewis Colvin. She also met her best friend whom she considered her sister, Tonya Benton, while serving in the Army.
Nina retired as a Disabled Veteran after 20 years of service. She also worked as a correctional officer with the Alabama Department of Corrections, Elmore County before retiring after 17 years of employment. Her life’s greatest work was caring for elderly clients who were in hospice care. She sat with numerous clients who welcomed her generous spirit and devoted care. True to her nature, she served the Lord as an active member of New Life Ministries in Montgomery Alabama. After years of working for others and longing to be reunited with her beloved husband Tim, the Lord granted her wish as she made her transition to her heavenly home Easter Sunday, April 12, 2020, with her companion Pretty Girl T. Dog by her side.
