He is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 65 years, Adina Ann Grobe; his daughter, Lynn Knuckles; his sons, Don Grobe (Dawn) and Mike Grobe (Colleen); nine cherished grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren who brought him endless joy. He is also survived by many, many dear friends, whose lives were enriched by his kindness, humor, and steady presence.
Born on January 1, 1942, in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, Don was the son of the late Paul Edward Grobe and Elsie Elizabeth Wilhelm Grobe. He was preceded in death by his three brothers: Paul Grobe, Richard Grobe, and Terry Grobe.
Don was a man who genuinely loved people—especially children. Whether it was a grandchild, a child at church, or a neighbor’s little one, Don had a way of making them feel seen, valued, and safe. He had the heart of a servant and found great joy in doing the small, unseen things that helped others.
He faithfully served the Lord through his church, Saint James Church, where he was an active and beloved member. Don deeply loved his church family and especially cherished his Frazer Sunday School Class, where he found rich fellowship and lifelong friendships.
One of Don’s greatest delights was making and serving tea at nearly every church function. What might have seemed like a simple task was, for Don, a ministry. He took pride in it—moving through the room with a smile, a gentle word, and a full pitcher, quietly pouring out hospitality and care in Jesus’ name.
He loved his family, he loved gardening, and he loved his church—but above all, he loved being a servant to all. His life was a quiet testimony to the joy of giving, the beauty of faithfulness, and the power of a gentle spirit.
A Celebration of Life service for Mr. Grobe will be held at 2:00pm on Sunday, November 23, 2025, at Saint James Church in Pike Road, Alabama, with Dr. Harrison Bell officiating. Visitation will take place immediately before at Saint James Church from 1:00pm-2:00pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to:
Saint James Church (9045 Vaughn Road | Montgomery, Alabama 36117) And MAP Center (Mercy House) (12 E. Delano Avenue | Montgomery, Alabama 36105)
Don will be deeply missed, but his legacy of love, service, and simple, steady kindness will live on in the many lives he touched.
