

McARTHUR, E. Jean, Sr. “Mr. Mac”, 83, died early Tuesday morning, June 21, 2011, after a brief illness. A native of Ashford, Alabama in Houston County, Mr. McArthur taught school and was a field supervisor for Retail Credit Co./Equifax. For the last 22 years, “Mr. Mac’s” life revolved around his two grandchildren, Kristen and Mary Beth; his work as a tour guide at the Alabama State Capitol; and his loving service caring for his wife, Bettye, during her extended illness. A memorial service celebrating his life will be held Friday, June 24, 2011, at 10 a.m. at First Christian Church, Taylor Road, with Rev. Dr. Susan Ward Diamond officiating. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. at the church. Burial will be held at 2:30 p.m. at the Ashford City Cemetery. Mr. McArthur was preceded in death by his wife of 59½ years, Bettye Griffin McArthur. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Mac and Cheryl McArthur; two grandchildren, Kristen and Mary McArthur; three sisters-in-law, Nancy Griffin Pate, Nell McArthur and Josephine McArthur; and numerous nieces and nephews.
