Ingrid was born in Feilitzsch, Germany on January 3, 1940, and died in Montgomery, Alabama on June 21, 2022.
She is preceded in death by her father (Hans Paul Kirsche), her mother (Elfriede Babette Kirsche), a brother (Michael Rower), and her stepfather (Herman Rower).
She is survived by her daughter Joann LaBarge (Larry), her son Timothy Hatch (Kristy), her grandchildren: Amanda LaBarge Golab (Jonathan), Wesley LaBarge (Rachel), and Mason Hatch, her great-grandchildren Harrison and Everett Golab, and her brother Volker Rower.
Ingrid was a beloved mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and friend. Anyone who shopped at Southern Homes and Gardens in the 1990’s or at Dillard’s in the 2000’s will remember Ms. Ingrid through her kindness and helpfulness. After working in retail, Ingrid worked at the Department of Public Safety for the State of Alabama, where she retired to become a full-time grandmother and great grandmother.
Ingrid loved to do nothing more than to visit, talk to, watch, or talk about her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. From the time they were born until she could no longer travel on her own, you could find Ingrid at every birthday party, football, baseball, soccer, basketball, golf event, wedding, or any other available opportunity she could use as an excuse to see her grandchildren.
Besides the births of her loved ones, Ingrid’s most proud day was September 1, 1965. That was the day she became a citizen of the United States of America. You will not find someone prouder to be a German American than Ingrid Hatch. She was born just after the beginning of WWII and spent most of her young life living in East Germany, so she always had vivid memories of the cost of war. She often spoke of her memories of the American soldiers who came into her town bringing chocolate bars and hope for the world. She never forgot what America stood for at that time and was always proud to have become a part of our nation.
The family will host a memorial service Saturday, July 9, 2022, at 2:00 PM at Eastern Meadows church of Christ – 8460 Vaughn Road, Montgomery, AL 36117.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to either the Cancer Society or the Montgomery Humane Society, as these are both organizations that Ingrid supported.
