
Born 09/14/1933, Geneva, AL in the home of the county doctor, her grandfather, Frances Holland Shaver was predeceased by parents, Forace Franklin Holland and Mary Frances Gay Holland, and her sister, Katherine Holland Barringer. At age three, she had to go live with her paternal grandparents due to her mom having tuberculosis. She remained with them until age six. When reunited with her parents she grew up and attended Cove Elementary School in Panama City, FL. She graduated from Bay High School in 1950.
That summer she enrolled and began attending API (now Auburn). She studied industrial design in the school of architecture and graduated in 1954. She worked in the advertising field in Panama City, Dothan and then Montgomery. She met and married Frank M Shaver Feb 23, 1957. Together they had four children: Sarabeth (Slay) Stevens, Daniel (Heather) Shaver, Thomas (Pam) Shaver and Martin Shaver. Grand children: Holland (Heath) Jackson, Hillary Stevens, Brock (Kayla) Stevens, Elizabeth Shaver, Ben (TM) Shaver, Sarah (Billy) Guyette, Hannah Flowers and 11 great grandchildren.
Fran served the Lord with Joy at Dalraida Baptist Church. She taught children’s Sunday School and VBS for over forty years. She taught a young women’s class as well. She held leadership positions in the WMU, adult choir, senior adult ministry, senior adult choir. She actively participated in the outreach programs of the church. She used her artistic talents to construct a visual display showing the progress of the Lottie Moon Offering toward the goal for many years. Additionally, she taught Good News Clubs in our home as well as local elementary schools. She and Frank played bridge with friends, and she continued playing with her neighborhood friends. She was a 60-year member of DAR. She participated in garden club, Bible studies and enjoyed exercising at Curves. Most of these activities including walking early every morning, were enjoyed with her very dear friend, Hettie Harrington. They were joined at the heart. She loved her extended family and helped organize family reunions when she could. She worked extensively in compiling our family’s genealogy records.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, September 22, 2023, at Dalraida Baptist Church at 2:00 p.m. with burial following at Alabama Heritage Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 – 2 p.m. prior to the service. Active pallbearers will be Ben Shaver, Brock Stevens, Heath Jackson, Billy Guyette, mike Taylor, Randy Braden. Honorary pallbearers will be her Senior Adult Sunday School Class. The family wishes to thank care givers, Lakin McCloud, Eddye Briggs, and Shirley Williams.
