Fru G. Carey

Mary Frances "Fru" Payne Garrison Carey, 75, passed away on October 23, 2021, at her home in Montgomery, AL. She was born on July 5, 1946, in Greenville, MS to Hugh Gamble Payne and Caledonia Jackson Payne.

Fru grew up in Leland, MS. She graduated from Leland High School in 1964. After high school she attended and graduated from college at Millsaps College in 1968, located in Jackson, MS. In 1969 Fru married Joseph Edmond Garrison, III in Greenville, MS.

Fru and Joe lived in Jackson, MS and Memphis, TN before moving to Montgomery. They had two daughters, Tancie and Brandt, and were happily married for 46 years. Fru worked in banking for most of her adult life. Fru was a member of First Church of Christ Scientist, Montgomery, AL. She loved spending time with her family, traveling, good food and fine wine, her close Chi Omega sorority sisters, and water skiing.

Fru is survived by her second husband, Donald Carey (Wetumpka, AL) (married 2019) and her two daughters, Tancie Chenault Garrison (David Dewberry of Troy, AL) and Elizabeth Brandt Garrison LaPish (married to Benjamin Hampton LaPish of Tuscaloosa, AL); one sister Caledonia "Donia" Payne Bath of Seattle, WA; four grandchildren - Ashton Elizabeth Richey, Caledonia Brandtley Richey, Reagan Hannah Richey, and Hugh Hampton LaPish.

A private graveside service will be held at Alabama Heritage Cemetery for the family. Friends of Fru are welcome to visit the family on Monday, November 1 starting at 12 noon at her home.
