Jim grew up in Demopolis, AL, attended college in Livingston and was a member of Frazer United Method Church in Montgomery, AL.
He loved life and was a robust Yankee and Alabama (Roll Tide) football fan.
He was in the car business for 42 years and retired from McConnel Honda, but continued to work for them, on occasion, after retirement. He also served as a member of the Army National Guard for seven years.
Jim is survived by his loving wife, Joan, of more than 21 years who he called “his bride.” He also leaves behind his mother, Barbara Parten, daughter Angel Sims, sons Eric, Wendell and Brandon Parten, two step-children William Simpson and Merritt Hays, 11 grandchildren, as well as other beloved family members and close friends.
The family will receive friends at Alabama Heritage, April 23, 2018, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., with a celebration of his life at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel. Burial will immediately follow the service at Alabama Heritage Cemetery.
