He was born on October 20, 1946, in High Point, North Carolina, to the late Walter B. and Winnie Parker Sprinkle. James served honorably in the Vietnam War and attended the University of North Carolina on a football scholarship. He graduated from UNC in 1972 with a degree in business and remained a lifelong Tar Heel fan. At the age of 64, James retired after a long career in restaurant management. James enjoyed playing golf and watching his alma mater play football and basketball. He was a husband, father, grandfather and brother who loved his family dearly.
James was preceded in death by his parents Walter Benton Sprinkle and Winnie Sprinkle Arrington. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Carol, of Montgomery, AL; his three children Kristin Allen (Blue), of Montgomery, AL; Erik McDade (Heather), of Spanish Fort, AL; and Courtney Sprinkle, of Birmingham, AL; three grandchildren Alexander Wylie, John David Allen and Ethan Allen, all of Montgomery, AL ; brother Dale Sprinkle; of Brookneal, VA; Sisters Linda Kay Merritt, of Gastonia, NC; and Ramona Farr (Bob), of Winston-Salem, NC; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, June 7, 2025 at Alabama Heritage Funeral Home. A visitation will be held at 10:00 am followed by a celebration of life service to begin at 11:00 am with Dr. Alex Palomaria officiating. Burial will follow in Alabama Heritage Cemetery.
Pallbearers for James' services are Erik McDade, Paul Selmon, Bob Farr, Buren Farr, Blue Allen, and Bryan Selmon.
