
James Wayne Stafford, born on February 2, 1927 in DeKalb County, Alabama, passed away on November 24, 2011 after a prolonged illness. He is survived by his four children: Warren (Alice); Mark (Kelly); Lisa Stafford and Stephanie Ledbetter. His devoted wife and friend for 60 years, Marie, and his loving son, David, preceded him in death. Stafford leaves behind numerous beloved grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends. He served his country with distinction in the Navy during WWII then in the Air Force, including the Korean and Viet Nam wars. Following his military career, Stafford taught at Trenholm State Technical College until he retired. Stafford built his cabin on Lake Martin with his own hands and enjoyed his summers there boating and fishing. When he became homebound due to illness, Stafford enjoyed his visits with the staff at both Evangel Temple and Dalraida Baptist Church. Having played football at Jacksonville State, Stafford enjoyed Auburn football every fall. He loved all competitive sports and watched them daily from his recliner with his toy poodle, Zack, faithfully in his lap. Graveside services will be held at 10:30 AM Saturday, November 26, at Alabama Heritage Cemetery with full military honors.
