Roger Wright was born September 11, 1936 in McCrory, Arkansas where he lived until 1952 when he moved to Clifton Arizona and graduated from Clifton High School in 1954. He met the love of his life Reda Narcissus Gordan of Morenci, Arizona shortly after moving to Arizona. They were married on Christmas Eve 1954, while Roger was home on leave from the United States Air Force.
Chief Wright entered the service in 1954 and served as a radar operator and later cross trained as a computer operator and systems analyst technician. Included in his numerous awards and decorations are the Meritorious Service Medal and the Joint Service Commendation Medal. He had several assignments throughout the United States including a tour on the Texas Towers off the coast of Massachusetts. His service included five years in Stuttgart, Germany. Together Roger and Reda enjoyed 11 assignments throughout the US and Germany during his 21-year career.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, travel, square dancing and his family. He will best be remembered for his service to the country; his kindness and generosity will not soon be forgotten.
Roger is survived by his wife of 23 years Marilyn. His Children: David (wife Stephanie) Wright of Parker, Colorado; Ronda Wright of Montgomery, Alabama; Deborah (husband Joey) Crook of Greenville, AL. He had three grandchildren: Sally (husband Bobby) Brown of Valley, AL; Kristen Wright of Highlands Ranch, CO; Kelly (husband Nestor) Bravo of Lakewood, Colorado and five great grandchildren; his brother Clarence and sister Joyce.
The Chief was proceeded in death by his wife of 38 years Reda and his brothers Elvis, Eugene and Speedy.
A graveside service for Roger will be held Wednesday, December 13, 2023 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Alabama Heritage Cemetery, 10505 Atlanta Highway, Montgomery, AL 36117.
