Wyoming. He was the beloved son of Valley Morrison, Jr., and the late
Alfretta Morrison.
Growing up in Chicago, Illinois, he received his early childhood and
secondary education in the Chicago Public School System, graduating from
Taft High School. Throughout high school, he was actively involved in
numerous sports and activities. Joe was an exceptionally astute and
perceptive young man who developed a passion for technology during his
early school years. He valued education and took advantage of every
opportunity to learn and grow; thus, earning an Associate degree and
innumerable certifications in information technology.
Joe believed strongly in loyalty and commitment to his country. He enlisted
in the United States Air Force where he served with distinction. During his
military career, he was assigned to numerous posts throughout the United
States, including Langley Air Force Base in Hampton, Virginia. He was an
Airman to the core and the discipline and patriotism he learned in the Air
Force never left him. Joe received numerous commendations and awards as
he advanced through the ranks as a Munitions Systems Specialist. His final
military assignment was Maxwell Air Force Base—Gunter Annex in
Montgomery, Alabama where he retired with full honors after 20 years of
active duty service.
Joe’s devotion to his military profession was only surpassed by his deep
commitment to his family. While stationed at Langley AFB, he met the love
of his life, Dawn Robinson. In 1999, they were joined in holy matrimony
and, thereafter, embarked on the adventure of a lifetime filled with love,
respect, and true devotion to each other. Through the years, Joe proved to
be a true anchor to his wife. He delighted in supporting Dawn in all her
endeavors. As a devoted husband, he ate not the bread of idleness and
always sacrificed his needs for the good of his household. After retirement
from the military, he was employed by the Department of Defense/Defense
Information Systems Agency in Montgomery, Alabama. His career was
defined by his hard work, high expectations, and unquestionable integrity.
He was an enthusiastic employee who always looked for optimal solutions
to complex problems and was never satisfied with the status quo. Joe was an
extremely driven employee who always gave his best.
While Joe never sought to make a name for himself, his remarkable
reputation ensured that he was always respected wherever he went. Anyone
who knew him would agree that he was straight-forward and unpretentious;
but he was also the voice of calm, comfort, and humility. He genuinely
cherished every moment of his life and squandered nothing. Joe had a big
heart; enjoyed hunting, sports, and politics; and he was the best husband,
son, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend anyone could ever hope for. He has
left a lasting impact on those he encountered and will long be remembered
for his perseverance and kindness.
On September 23, 2020, Joseph peacefully transitioned to eternal rest. In
addition to his mother, he was predeceased by his brother,
Valley Morrison, III.
Cherished memories will forever remain with his loving wife, Dawn R.
Morrison; his father, Valley Morrison, Jr. (Stephanie Lutiger) of Geneva,
IL; one sister, Fashant Morrison of Chicago, IL; brothers-in-law, Shawn
Robinson (Jacinta Clark) of Vestavia, AL; Langston Dodds of Orlando, FL;
nephews, Elijah and Camden Clark-Robinson of Vestavia, AL; aunts and
uncles; and a myriad of cousins, co-workers, and friends.
