Sara “Joyce” Simon, 87, of Montgomery, AL passed away on Saturday, September 20, 2026. Joyce was born on February 17, 1939, to the late John and Era Bell Akin. She was as member of Eastmont Baptist Church and the Hope Sunday School Class.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James Edward Simon, a daughter, Vikki Berry, her parents, a sister and her husband, Janell “Nell” Hartsfield (M.A.) a brother, Robert Akin, and father of Deborah, Gerald Ward.
Joyce is survived to cherish her memory by her daughter, Deborah Messick (Don), four grandchildren, Justin Messick (Danielle), James Messick (Melody), Daniel Berry, Garrett Berry (Chloe), great grandchildren, Sarah Kate Messick, Sela Joy Messick, her son in law and his wife, Lee Berry (Susan), niece, Dean Hartsfield and nephew, Steven Hartsfield.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, September 26, 2026, from 2:00 PM until 3:00 PM at Alabama Heritage Funeral Home 10505 Atlanta Highway Montgomery, Al 36117. Funeral services will begin at 3:00 PM with Brother Dennis Long officiating. Interment will take place in Alabama Heritage Cemetery following the service.
