

Katharine was born on January 1, 1939, in Monroe, Louisiana, to the late William Potts Clark of New Orleans and Margaret Garing Ewing.
She was raised in New Orleans, where she attended Louise McGehee School before graduating from St. Anne’s School in Charlottesville, Virginia, in 1957. She later attended Newcomb College in New Orleans.
On June 21, 1963, she married Dr. Ronald Kent Montgomery, beginning a devoted marriage centered on love, family, and shared life. Together they raised three children: Kent Montgomery (Christie), Helena, Alabama; Kakie Gwin (Nick), Dothan, Alabama; and Jed Montgomery, Montgomery, Alabama.
Katharine was a loving grandmother to Connor Montgomery, Morgan Montgomery, Andrew Gwin (Bradi), and Hunter Gwin, and was also blessed with one great-grandchild.
She is survived by her dear brother, Cleland Powell of New Orleans.
An avid and accomplished tennis player, Katharine spent many years on the court, where she found both joy and camaraderie. She was especially proud to be ranked in the state of Alabama in mother-daughter doubles.
Known for her gentle spirit, soft voice, and unwavering kindness, Katharine touched the lives of all who knew her. She carried herself with grace and warmth, leaving a lasting impression on family and friends alike. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, April 20, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Alabama Heritage Funeral Home, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Reverend John Ed Mathison will officiate her celebration of life.
A private family burial will follow in Lincoln, Alabama.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made in Katharine’s honor to a charity of one’s choice.
