Ken enlisted in the United States Air Force in September of 1950 and went on to a full and honorable career, retiring as a full Colonel in May of 1979. His life reflected steady courage, a deep sense of duty, and a devotion to serving others—qualities that remained evident long after his retirement from active service.
A faithful member of St. Bede Catholic Church, Ken served as a Lector and gave generously of his time and leadership. He served on the Finance Council Archdiocesan Board of Education and on the Board of Seton Haven Catholic Retirement Center. He was also past president of the Montgomery Retired Officers Association and past Flight Captain of The Order of Daedalians—roles that spoke to the trust placed in him and the lasting impact of his example.
Ken was the beloved husband of Mary Ann, whom he married on July 9, 1955. Together they shared 70 years of marriage marked by steadfast love and a life built on devotion and faith. He was a loving father to Cynthia (Ed), Lynn, and Kevin; a grandfather to Krista (Chris), Justin (Natalie), Alicia (Josh), Jordan (Eric), Noah (Emily), and Cade; and a great-grandfather to Kiya, C.J., Stella, Reilly, Marshall and Easton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ray Carlson and Maybelle Carlson; his brothers, Ray and Roland; and his son-in-law, Phil Fox.
In quieter moments, Ken found joy and companionship on the golf course, especially with his Misfit Golf Group. Whether in service, in family life, or among friends, he was deeply cherished—an inspirational presence whose faithful heart and devoted spirit will be remembered with enduring respect.
