It is with great sadness that the family of Kenneth John Carrick, jr. announces his passing on Monday, April 19, 2021. He will be lovingly remembered by his son Ken (wife Lori) and daughter Debbie (husband Tim Saeger). Born 1931 in Oak Park, Illinois he grew-up in Riverside, Illinois and attended Indiana University but left to enlist in the Army to serve in the Korean War. Upon his return to the Chicago area he wedded the love of his life Caryll with whom he remained married for 63 years. He also began a long career with International Business Machines (IBM), relocating several times, finally taking root in Montgomery, Alabama where he retired after 37 years. He then consulted with IBM for a number of years gradually transitioning to a life filled by service to the greater Montgomery, AL community by joining a number of local service organizations that included Kiwanis, Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP), and United Way. A life-long Boy Scout and Scouter, he was a natural volunteer and beloved for his contributions to the causes he believed-in; which included serving as a reader at Dalraida Elementary School, local precinct polling official, docent with the Alabama Archives, escort for WWII veteran honor flights, and worshiped at Whitfield Memorial United Methodist Church where he served on the committee in a number of roles. Loving husband and beloved father, he leaves behind 5 grandchildren: KJ Carrick (Lauren Drew), Lauren Pesa (Brandan), Mitchell Saeger (Meredith), Scott Ferry (Jesica), and Caitlin Little (Joshua); and 4 great- grandchildren: Ethan and Paisley Ferry, and Carter Jobin and Hunter Little. His life will be celebrated by family and friends at Whitfield Memorial United Methodist Church Friday, April 23rd with visitation beginning at 1pm and the service beginning at 2pm. Flowers may be sent to Whitfield Memorial United Methodist Church for the service, or in lieu of flowers your contributions to the United Way or the Alabama Archives would be dear to him.
