

Col. Leon Eugene Obenhaus, USMC Ret, age 75, a resident of Montgomery, peacefully departed this life on Saturday, April 10, 2010. He fought a good fight, but was ready for his heavenly home. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leon Millard Obenhaus and Callie Hobbs Obenhaus of Victoria, TX. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Carolyn Arnold Obenhaus; children, Katie Boyd of Crofton, MD, Kelly and Mike Ulven of Atlanta, GA and Leon Christopher and Suzie Obenhaus of Montgomery; eight grandchildren, Sophie and Grace Boyd, Kadie, Charlie, Callie and Cole Ulven, Christopher and Baby Jack Obenhaus; sister, Peggy Ryan and brother, Douglas (Jerrel) Obenhaus of Victoria, TX; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends; special caregivers, Kendra Holliday, DelCelia Sellers, Bernice Wilson and Tymesa Wilson. Col. Obenhaus served a distinguished career of 28 years in the United States Marine Corps with numerous duty assignments, including Viet Nam. Upon retirement, he continued to be active as a local commercial real estate broker. He was a deacon and devoted member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church where he gladly served wherever he was needed. The world is a better place because he lived and he will be missed greatly. Funeral services will be held at Ridgecrest Baptist Church on Tuesday, April 13, at 1:30 p.m., with Dr. Michael Cassity officiating. Visitation will be from 12:00 – 1:30 at the church. Burial will follow at Alabama Heritage Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be The Tony Lisenby Sunday School Class.
