

COOPER, Lorraine Jean Davenport “Lori”, passed away Tuesday, July 13, 2010, at Baptist Medical Center East in Montgomery. Born September 28, 1927 in New Hampshire, she was raised in Pennsylvania, graduating from Providence Hospital Nursing School in Beaver Falls, PA. She was the daughter of the late Ruth and S.C. Davenport. Lorraine served as a nurse in the U.S. Navy and later in several hospitals, including St. Margaret’s in Montgomery. She was a volunteer with Meals on Wheels and Catholic Social Services in her previous years. She also served for many years as a nurse for the Red Cross, and took great pride in representing them at the scene of floods, hurricanes, and other disasters. During the fighting in Croatia, Lorraine was part of a group who took medical supplies to the victims there. She is survived by her husband, James W. Cooper; daughter, Melissa P. Andersson and husband, Henry, of Rockledge, FL; brother, Richard C. Davenport and wife, Jo, of Stratford, TX; sisters, Lyndal Jerome of W. Lebanon, NH, and Delores Tucker of Orange Park, FL, and Gail Ashley of Keystone Heights, FL; and many nieces and nephews. Lorraine was very recently preceded in death by her beloved pet and companion of 15 years, Lulu. Her Memorial Service will be held on Monday, July 19, 2010, at 11 AM, at the Church of the Holy Spirit Catholic Church, with Reverend Monsignor Fr. Charles Troncale officiating. Visitation will begin there at 10:30, and lunch will follow the services. Donations may be made to the American Red Cross or any worthy organization.
