BAKER, Merle Bailey, “MiMi”, left us to be with the Lord on October 7, 2013. She was born in September of 1947, in Poplar Bluff, Missouri and moved to Montgomery with her family in 1955. She graduated from Robert E. Lee High School and from Huntingdon College with degrees in Education, History and English and earned a Master’s Degree in Education from Troy State University. She taught school in Montgomery and Wetumpka and was employed at Albany International. She leaves to cherish her memory and celebrate her life, her husband of 41 years, Royce Breallon Baker; son, Royce MacClellan “Mac” Baker ; mother, Betty Hallman; sister, Phyllis McCalman; nieces, Christy McCalman and Janie Grace Szoboszlay all of Montgomery; cousins, Mary (J. P. ) McLane, Peggy Peck and Becky (Allen) Brooks and their families of Poplar Bluff, Missouri; brother and sister-in-law, Randall and Rose Baker and their family as well as other loving extended family and friends in Montgomery, Elmore County and Missouri. She will especially be missed by her loving dogs, Bailey and Sam. Merle was preceded in death by her grandmother, Mary Hinch; father, Wayne Williamson; step-father, Frank Bailey; brother-in-law, John McCalman and parents-in-law, Enoch Lavoy. “E.L.” and Daughtry Baker. Visitation will be on Friday, October 11, 2013, from 5 – 7 p.m., at Alabama Heritage Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held in the Chapel of Alabama Heritage Funeral Home on Saturday, October 12, 2013, at 11:00 a.m., with burial following in Alabama Heritage Cemetery. The family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses, attendant staff and hospice at Baptist Medical Center South for their loving and gentle care of MiMi.
