

Mollie Jean Byrd Wells is at home with our Heavenly Father free from sickness and pain. She was a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother. She was the epitome of the Proverbs 31 woman and a joy to those who knew and loved her. She is preceded in death by her wonderful husband Frank Wells. She is survived by her son, Thomas Franklin Wells III (Angela) and her daughter Elizabeth Wells Flynn (Dean); four grandchildren: Michael Aaron Fritz, Jr., William Wells Fritz, Anna Katherine Wells, and Thomas Franklin Wells IV; sister-in-law, Yvonne Wells Key.
Jean was born on January 28, 1935 to Will Johns and Henrietta Thompson Byrd. She grew up in Corinth, MS. After high school graduation, she continued her education at Mississippi University for Women obtaining her degree in library science and social studies. She met the love of her life at the Columbus Mississippi Pilgrimage Parade in 1956. Two years later, she married Frank at First Baptist Church of Corinth, MS. They moved to Birmingham, AL where Frank accepted a position at Birmingham Baptist Hospital. Jean was head of the Birmingham Eastlake branch. They were members of Mountain Brook Baptist Church. Jean taught Sunday school and sang in the choir. She was a member of the Princess Sehow DAR and an avid bridge player.
In 1969, Frank and Jean moved to Montgomery as Frank accepted the position of Chief Financial Officer at Baptist Hospital. They were members of First Baptist Church Montgomery for over 57 years and were charter members of Vaughn Forest Church and served there for many years. She was a member of the Martha Chandler Sunday School class. Jean was a member of the Wynlakes Women’s Club (past president), Merry Weeders Garden Club (past president), Junior Thespians Literary Club (past president), the Magnolia Book Club, Alabama Historic Research Society, Francis Marion DAR (past vice regent), Goodwill Industries Auxiliary (chairman of the board), Board of Young Women Christian Organization, and Cradle of the Confederacy UDC. She was an avid bridge player along with Frank, her husband.
Jean was a talented interior decorator, flower arranger, party planner, and cook. She loved entertaining for any occasion at any time of year. Her decorations for every holiday were eloquently displayed and purposefully placed. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She had a meaningful impact on everyone she met. She has left a void that cannot be filled but having faith in God means we will see her again.
