

Rachel Doris (Lowd) Burley of Alexander City, Alabama passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on March 5th, 2022. Mrs. Burley was born on December 7th, 1935, in Biloxi, Mississippi. She was the daughter of the late Madeline and Charles R Lowd. Mrs. Burley met her husband and love of her life James R. Burley at the age of sixteen while attending a Methodist youth fellowship group in Biloxi. Mr. Burley was in the Air Force and stationed at Keesler Air Force base in Biloxi. They were married on August 1st, 1953, in Biloxi and spent the next 65 years together until his death on January 12th, 2019.
Mrs. Burley proudly served as President of the Montgomery Art Guild. She was a talented artist, and her artwork and paintings were very special to her, her family and friends. Mrs. Burley was a beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Her family was her life, she enjoyed painting, golfing and playing bridge with her lifelong friends.
A very faithful woman, she taught Sunday School at Whitfield Methodist Church in Montgomery. Mrs. Burley is survived by her three children, James Robert Burley ll and wife Casey of Seaford Virginia, Christy (Burley) Pascarella and husband Gene of Longwood, Florida, Richard James Burley and his wife Melody of Montgomery, Alabama. Grandchildren James Robert lll, John, Madeline, Rachel, Heather, Ashton, Brandon, Taylor, Gina, Smith Ann and Forest. Great grandchildren Rhett, Hayes, Blaire, Campbell, Grayson, Landon, Phoenix, Emberly and Hope.
Mrs. Burley was preceded in death by her beloved son Robert and husband James, her sister Ann and brother Rod. She is survived by her sister Harrelyn, and brother Frank. A funeral service will be held at Alabama Heritage Funeral Home in Montgomery, Alabama at 1:00 PM on Thursday, March 10th, 2022. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in her name to Children’s Harbor in Alexander City, Alabama.
