Rebecca Florene Wallace, joyfully known as Becky, passed on June 17, 2026 in Birmingham, Alabama, six days after her 83rd birthday. She was born in 1943 in Memphis, Tennessee to A.E. and Elizabeth Yarborough where she lived for six years with her parents and older sister, Judy. The family soon moved to Birmingham, Alabama, where she became the “middle” sister when her younger sister Rachel was born. The three girls grew to become the “Cool Sisters” in adulthood, founding the “Cool Stuff” craft company. Becky was preceded in death by her parents and her older sister Judy Wilson.
She is survived by her husband Dan Wallace, her son Michael Wallace (Karen), and her younger sister Rachel Powers. Becky is lovingly remembered by many nieces and nephews, as well as numerous friends whose lives she deeply touched.
Her passions were many, particularly singing, with which she regularly graced those around her. Becky was a student at Avondale Elementary and a graduate of Woodlawn High School in Birmingham, AL. During these years she stayed busy as a member of the Girls Chorus, Phi Beta Phi, and a student of the violin. She and her sister Judy also performed on the Country Boy Eddie Show.
Becky was not one to stay in one place long and adventured throughout her life to Mississippi College; Nashville, Tennessee; Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; San Antonio, Texas; Atlanta, Georgia; Madison, Indiana; Destin, Florida; Lake Martin, Alabama; and Summit County, Colorado. In each of these places she established welcoming homes and her vibrant and inclusive personality attracted many friends.
A woman of devout faith, Becky found a church family everywhere she ventured. With a love for music and a most generous spirit she was involved in many aspects of her church community. This included music worship as a translator of songs in sign language, fundraising, and an endless drive for administrative duties. She traveled to Kenya to assist in the construction of schools while sharing her enthusiasm and faith with many children. In Colorado’s Rocky Mountains, Becky’s talents and boundless energy were put into a group of “Bag Ladies” where she made special wine bags as a fundraiser for Summit County’s Family and Intercultural Resource Center.
Abundance followed Becky everywhere she went including her gardens of lush plants, trees and flowers. She enjoyed planting and nurturing anything that she could fit in a pot, place on a balcony or plant anywhere around her house.
As her life’s journey entered its final years, despite a fading memory, she lovingly touched many hearts with her glowing presence.
Becky will be remembered for her love of “bling.” If it shined, glittered or was a bright color, she would wear it with style and a smile. Her genuine affection and heartfelt laughter will remain in the memories of all who were blessed to know her.
For I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord. They are plans for good and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. – Jerimiah 29:11. The Living Bible.
