

Richard graduated from Tucker High School in Tucker, Georgia in 1968. He served honorably in the US Army in Germany prior to attending college. He attended the University of Georgia and graduated from Dekalb Technical College in 1981.
Before retiring, Richard worked in a variety of technical industry roles, including at Scientific Atlanta in Lawrenceville, Georgia and Miltope Corporation in Montgomery, Alabama.
Richard was an accomplished musician and particularly enjoyed playing old fashioned rock and roll on his favorite guitar. An avid sports fan, he enjoyed watching the Green Bay Packers, the Atlanta Falcons and the University of Georgia football teams.
He was predeceased by his father, Lt. Colonel Leon A. Pierce (1921-1985), his mother, Mildred R. Pierce (1926 - 2020) and his younger sister, Dr. Elizabeth Pierce Litteral (1957 - 2021). His beloved wife, Kathy Pierce, predeceased him in 2019.
He is survived by his older brother, Robert Pierce and his wife, Martha, of Asheville, North Carolina, his younger brother, Michael Pierce and his wife, Joanne, of Madison, Connecticut, and two nephews: James Litteral of Mentor, Ohio and Trevor Pierce of New York City.
