

HOLDING, Roberta Mae Butler, the third daughter of Madelyn and Robert Butler of Dade City, Florida was born on February 16, 1930 and entered into the presence of the Lord Jesus on January 15, 2016. A memorial service is scheduled at First Presbyterian Church, 9299 Vaughn Road, on Sunday, January 17 at 3:00. The family will receive guests one hour prior to the service in the church parlor. Mrs. Holding graduated from Huntingdon College in 1950 followed by graduate school at the University of Alabama. Preceded to glory by her husband Dr. Bruce F. Holding, Jr., she is survived by their five children Priscilla and John Stewart, Christy Hill Holding, Melissa and Reverend Charles Kendall, Bruce and Sherry Holding, and Angie and Dr. Jeff Benner. Other family members include eighteen grandchildren: Bruce (Johanna), Drew (Emile), Robbie (Emily), Michael (Rachel), Aaron (Eloise), Susanna, Zachary, Philip, Samuel Stewart, Rebekah Stewart Lee (Jon English); Benjamin Hoefling; Jacob Kendall, Madelyn, Fowler, and Hunter Holding; Jay, Joshua, and Rebecca Benner as well as nine great grandchildren. She is also survived by sisters Joan (Al) Ruggles, nieces Allison (Ron) Gore and Madelyn (Jim) Candler; Romayne (James) McCabe, nephews John (Patsy), Kim, Kevin, and Richard McCabe, nieces Denise Kirk and Shawn (Charles) Valletia, sister in law Alice Holding Rollow and niece Delia Rollow. Roberta was a true servant of the Lord who purposed to be a blessing to everyone she encountered. It is the family’s prayer to follow in Roberta’s footsteps: to be those who love the Lord Jesus Christ, love others, live selflessly, and passionately make Him known until they see Him face to face. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Presbyterian Church or one’s favorite charity.
