Our precious mother, Sadie Winifred Smith, went to her heavenly home on Saturday, December 3, 2022. Sadie was a faithful mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who loved her Lord, her family, Frazer Church, and many dear friends.
Sadie was born and attended school in Leicester, England. She was working as a bookkeeper for a shoe factory in Leicester when a young airman named Duwane caught her eye, married her in 1961, and soon after brought her to the United States. They moved often as military families do, grew their family, and met many wonderful friends along the way. After Duwane’s retirement from the military, they settled in Montgomery, Alabama.
Sadie was devoted to her young family. She loved to cook and always prepared enough food for one more place at the table. Sadie made sure the Smith family was taken care of beautifully and with four busy children, she rarely made time for herself.
In her later years, Sadie enjoyed serving in various areas of ministry through Frazer Church. She and Duwane joined a square-dancing troupe, a bowling team, and traveled often with friends. Her deepest joy was spending time with grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Sadie is survived by her children: David Smith, Darrell Smith (Heather Williams), Keely Smith, and Dahlia Smith Davis (Paul). Grandchildren are Hunter Smith (Ballard), Hollan Smith (Hoke), Grace Davis, Paul Haigler Davis, Jr., Andrew Williams (Grace), Lauren Williams Shoupe (David), Hasten Williams (Mary Alison); great-grandchildren Mae Pritchett Smith, Lawson Smith, Decatur Shoupe, John David Shoupe, Hasten Gray Williams, Austin Ann Williams, Eli Williams and Wyatt Williams.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 14, 2022, from 12:30 – 1:30 p.m. and the Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:30 p.m. in the Chapel of Frazer Church.
In lieu of flowers, friends may contribute to Frazer Church or Parkinson’s Foundation.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.AlabamaHeritageFH.com for the Smith family.
