Sgt. Zachary Cleland

Zac graduated from Saint James High school. After high school Zac joined the United States Marine Corps on February 21, 2017. He graduated from Parris Island boot camp and was awarded the High Shooter Award. He was stationed in San Diego at Camp Pendleton and was currently stationed at Miramar Air Station. Zac was deployed with the 11th MEU on the USS Boxer for 9 months in 2019. He served our country proudly and unselfishly. Zac was a loyal friend to many and a beloved brother of his fellow marines especially those serving in the 11th MEU MACG detachment at Miramar. Zac loved Auburn Football and the Atlanta Braves. Zac loved to deer hunt and fish. He loved spending time with his family and friends at the lake and the beach. Zac will be greatly missed by all who knew him and loved him.

Zac is survived by many beloved family members:

his parents- John and Lisa Cleland, brothers- Will and Josh, grandmother- Mary Cleland, Aunts and uncles- Patricia and Ray Funderburk, Jerri Brantley, Larry and Elizabeth Ryles, Catherine Cleland and Barry Cleland, Cousins- Brian (Daphney) Ingram, Matt Ingram, Jeremy Brantley, Ben and Sarrah Ryles, Jacob and Clay Ingram, Avery Brantley.

Zac is predeceased by his Maternal Grandparents- Jim and Christine Ryles,as well as his Paternal Grandfather Bob Cleland.

A visitation for Zac will be held Sunday, December 19, 2021 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Alabama Heritage Funeral Home followed by a celebration of life service at 2:00 PM. A private family graveside service with Full Military Honors will follow after the celebration of life service.
