Timothy Edward Lutz of Montgomery, AL went to his heavenly home on All Saints Day, November 1, 2026 after a year-long battle with heart and lung decline. Tim was born to his parents, Edward Lutz and Dorothy (Schlichting) Lutz on August 5, 1955 in Waterloo, IA. He was baptized, confirmed, and married in the Lutheran Church. He married Sharlene (Meyer) Lutz on June 25, 1977 at Zion Lutheran Church, Tobias, NE. Over the years they were blessed with three children, three grandchildren, and two grandgirls.
The majority of his work career was with Huttig Sash and Door Company where he worked his way up from warehouse, to sales, and to assistant manager at various locations in the Midwest and Alabama. He was blessed to close out his work with wonderful people at several Sears and Ace locations in the Gulf Coast area.
His faith was important to him as he served as deacon, elder, and president in various Lutheran churches in the Midwest and Alabama. He enjoyed playing, coaching and watching sports, especially his Iowa Hawkeyes. He was a very present father and grandfather, especially staying involved with their baseball and band activities. Much to his delight, many hours were spent discussing sports, watching band performances, helping with homework, playing cards, and joking with his family.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Sharlene Lutz, of Montgomery, AL; son Tim Lutz of Montgomery AL, daughter Emily Lutz of Chicago, IL, and daughter Heidi Stewart (Wes) of Montgomery, AL; grandsons Andrew Lutz and Matthew Lutz, granddaughter Emma Lutz all of Montgomery, AL; grandgirls, Molly and Charlotte Stewart of Brooksville, FL; mother, Dorothy Lutz of Cedar Rapids, IA, brother Anthony Lutz (Barb) of Redmond, OR, sisters Tamara Lutz and Anita Brandon (Wayne) of Cedar Rapids, IA, brothers-in-law Gary Meyer (Patsy) and Randy Meyer (Jodi) of Western, NE, and many aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his father, Edward Lutz and sister Annette Lutz both of Cedar Rapids, IA; father-in-law, Merle Meyer (Joann) and mother-in-law, Lucille Meyer, all of Western, NE; and granddaughter, Margaret Stewart, of Montgomery, AL.
A celebration of life (both here on earth and in eternity) will be held at St. Paul Lutheran in Montgomery, AL on Thursday, November 5, at 10 a.m. His spirit will be held in permanent memory in the Zion Lutheran Church cemetery at Tobias, NE. In lieu of flowers, you may send donations to the Iowa Children’s Hospital in Iowa City, IA. Tim loved the Iowa Hawkeye tradition of fans waving and sending their love to the children there at the end of the first quarter of every home football game.
