Velma Rabon Bailey ended her journey in this world peacefully on Sunday, August 1, 2021. On Earth she passed in her home, surrounded by her family, including her husband of 53 years, Carl Bailey. A moment later in Heaven, she was greeted by her mother, Lena Rabon, her father Buck Rabon, her brother, Randy Rabon, her aunt Lilma Meyer, and her grandparents Jesse and Sarah Carroll.
She is survived by her husband Carl; brother Bobby Rabon (Donna); children, Cheri Norwood (Travis), Kim Engle (Jimmy), and Chris Bailey (Geneva).
Velma was born on September 27, 1948, to Lena and Buck Rabon in Aynor, South Carolina. She married Carl Bailey on September 27, 1968. As Carl served his country in the Air Force as a fireman, Velma served her country as a faithful military wife. They lived all over the world including Japan, England, Greece and Germany. In Japan they added their daughters, Cheri and Kim, to their family. Their son Chris was born in California.
Their final station was in Montgomery, Alabama. where they decided to stay. They lived on Brantwood Drive for thirty years and while there added eleven grandchildren to their family: Madison (Austin), Samuel, Bekah, Christopher, Bethany, Elijah, Isaac, Piper, Cooper, Drew and Anna.
Velma was known as Nana to her grandchildren and did many things for them including baking custom cakes for their birthdays, making wonderful Christmases and even crossing the world one last time to help get one adopted. She was the center of a loving family who will miss her dearly.
A funeral service is scheduled for 2:00 pm, on Wednesday, August 4, 2021, at Alabama Heritage with visitation at 1:00 pm. Burial will follow at Alabama Heritage Cemetery.
