

Gaston, Warren Drake a resident of Montgomery, AL passed away on July 8th, at the age of 90, after a 10 year battle with Alzheimer's disease. Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 13th at 3:00 with visitation one hour prior to service at the Episcopal Church of the Ascension in Montgomery. Officiating the service will be the Reverends Rosa Lindahl and Mark Waldo Jr. Burial to follow at Alabama Heritage Cemetery in Montgomery.
Mr. Gaston is survived by his wife of 48 years, Barbara; son, Michael (Chris); granddaughters, Massey Drake Gaston and Morgan Elizabeth Gaston; brother, Gene (Carole); sister, Charlotte Thompson as well as several nieces and nephews. Mr. Gaston is predeceased by his parents James Josephus and Genie Mae Gaston; brothers, Beverly Gaston, Wiley Gaston, Wilbur Gaston, sisters, Elizabeth Stephens and Frances Acton.
Warren will always be remembered as a kind and honest man with a wonderful sense of humor. His wisdom and wit will be a fond memory to his family and friends. He enjoyed life.
Mr. Gaston was a member of the Church of the Ascension. He was born in Birmingham, AL. After graduating from Phillips High School in Birmingham he enlisted in the Navy and served fourteen months at Pearl Harbor. He then began his education at Birmingham Southern College in Birmingham and graduated in 1950. After graduation he went on to study the ministry at Garrett Institute Biblical College in Evanston, Illinois where he earned his Bachelor of Divinity Degree.
After graduation, he was employed by Jefferson County Juvenile Court. In 1956 he began his career with the State of Alabama Pardons & Parole Board where he retired as Director in 1990. After receiving many awards, Mr. Gaston was most proud of the 1989 "Fred Bryant Award" as the most outstanding contribution in the field of Corrections in Alabama, and the Association of Paroling Authorities International "Community Service Award".
Mr. Gaston's nephews will serve as pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers include, Al Gaston, Jack Lufkin, William Segrest, Tom Tate, Robert L. Trotter, Myron (JR) Wells, and William Young. Special thanks go to Frazer Methodist Church Dementia Care Group, Memorial Presbyterian Dementia Care Group, First United Methodist Church Respite and Bill Nichol's State Veterans Home.
